2 Pages in a 4,500-Page Book
Inquiry
As we continue our journey through prehistoric time, we are realizing that humans have been around for a short amount of time compared with the history of the Earth. One way that we looked at "time" was comparing the various periods of Earth's history to the pages in a book. Using this example, if Earth were a 4,500-page book, the four major chapters would include:
1) Earth's formation
2) The beginning of marine life and the existence of one major land mass (Pangea)
3) Age of the Reptiles, dominance of dinosaurs, and breaking of large land mass
4) Age of Mammals
In this 4,500-page book, humans would not appear until the last 2 pages of the book. Wow, talk about amazing!
This week each student drew a picture and wrote about "What I Think I Know About How Fossils Form" and "What I Think I Know About the Rock Cycle." As we learn more about fossils and the rock cycle, students will be able to compare what they knew at the beginning of our inquiry to what they have learned after studying fossils and rocks. Our inquiry time is always filled with such curiosity...the questions, predictions, and discussions are so rich and thought-provoking!
