Life Story
Life Story
This week our class has been tracing the story of life on our Earth from its beginning to present day. We are using the book Life Story, by Virginia Lee Burton, as our main reference in addition to supplementing information with other sources. Over 3 billion years ago, the Earth was a hot "liquid" rock with no life. As the crust of the Earth cooled about 2 billion years ago, rocks began to form. About 1.2 billion years ago when water appeared, life was able to begin. First came sea plants and invertebrates (550 million year ago). This week we have taken the journey through the Paleozoic Era of ancient life to the Mesozoic Era of middle life and the age of reptiles (dinosaurs!). Our class timeline of life is just beginning to unfold, and next week we will dive into the Cenozoic Era (recent life).
Field Trip on Tuesday
On Tuesday, September 23, our class will be attending the Honolulu Theatre for Youth performance of "Aladdin's Luck" at Tenney Theater. Please have your child wear a green MPI polo shirt. A note with more information about the field trip will be sent home with your child on Friday.
Thank YouSeptember is the month for birthdays in our class! We celebrated KH's birthday last Friday with delicious cupcakes. We kicked off our week Monday with a second round of cupcakes to celebrate JM's birthday, and on Wednesday we had a refreshing treat of popsicles to celebrate BM's birthday. Thank you to KH for donating the Magic Tree House book
Dark Day in the Deep Sea. We enjoyed reading the adventure about finding undiscovered sea animals and the giant octopus! Thank you to JM for donating the book
You Are Special. It was a special treat to have Mrs. Marutani read the book aloud to our class! Thank you to all the students who have been sharing interesting and informational books about prehistoric times! A great big mahalo to Colleen Otsuka for taking care of the book orders for our class!
