These past few weeks, we have been exploring the age of the Earth and what Earth is made of. Classroom guesses of the age of our Earth ranged from 500 years old up to 500,000 years old. When we read that the T-Rex was last on Earth about 67,000,000 years ago, that gave us another clue to the age of the Earth. Of course, all these clues and guesses help with place value of digits, which we are learning about in math.
We then began reading some science books that gave us some facts in regard to the age of our Earth. There are many theories as to how the Earth began. All the creation stories we read, some of them from other cultures, gave us different ideas as to the beginning of our Earth.
One thing we know for sure is that Earth began as a red, hot, fiery ball approximately 5 billion years ago. We know that over time the Earth has evolved into what our planet looks like today. Many thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Ako for bringing us hard-boiled eggs to use as our Earth representations today. Be sure to check the photo gallery and ask your child about the layers of our Earth and the changes Earth has gone through.
