The children in rooms 12 and 13 had a wonderful time at the Lucoral Museum this morning. Flora Lu, the gracious owner of the museum, shared her personal collection of gems, rocks, and fossils with us. As our guide, Liz, held up various specimens, she was very impressed with our students' understanding of gems and fossils. When she held up a piece of petrified wood, one boy eagerly shared, "We found petrified wood when we dug for fossils." The next two specimens were an ammonite and a nautilus. Our guide wasn't sure what the difference was between the two. However, a first-grade girl raised her hand to share that she just read that information in a book yesterday. "The ammonite shell coils in and the nautilus shell coils out." Our class was able to identify real dinosaur dung, which was a big hit! The children were attentive and enthused throughout the entire museum, and I was very proud of them. Moms, be on the lookout today, your child made something special for you at the museum. The children were so knowledgeable and well behaved that Flora Lu invited all of them to come back with their parents at no charge. Be sure to check the brochure for museum hours.
