Happy New Year!

Your children have returned to school with great eagerness to write about and share their holiday experiences and adventures with the class. They had opportunities to do that this morning at Writer's Workshop and during "Chat Time," when we sit in small groups and just talk to each other. While observing them at Free Choice this morning, I was touched by their genuine happiness to be interacting with friends again. And as a teacher, I was particularly delighted with their excited questions: "What will we be studying for the next Inquiry? When will we start borrowing in math? Can I read some poetry to the class today?"

Our next Inquiry will be Geography, and we will be studying everything from how to understand and make maps to how landforms and climate affect the development of cultures and societies. It promises to be another stimulating unit of study.

Christmas Sale
I was so busy keeping the ice cream from melting that I didn't have an opportunity to take pictures. If some of the mothers who helped took photos can get them to me, I will put them into our photo gallery. In the meantime, check out Mrs. Bailie's gallery for some pictures of your kids selling their mochi and ice cream. I noticed lots of chocolate mustaches!

The check for $100 is ready to be sent to the American Assistance to Cambodia Foundation and forwarded to the school. I think this is a very meaningful way for the children to use the proceeds representing their ingenuity and hard work.

Math
Mahalo to all the parents who found fun and interesting ways to practice the math facts. Please keep the fact cards at home for further practice. I will check their progress with cards I have in class.

Thank you again for all your wonderful Christmas gifts and greetings!
