Our Journeys

Your children had glowing reports from Ms. Field, their Specials teachers, and even Mrs. Hussey when I returned from Peru. Here are just a few of the adjectives used to describe them: wonderful, helpful, respectful, self-sufficient, incredible, polite, pleasant, curious, attentive, and mature! Wow!! We should all be very proud of them.

I had a very unexpected surprise on Monday when Mrs. Cutter came through the door attached to 18 bobbing balloons and her arms filled with gourmet cupcakes. My marriage to Captain John was celebrated with glee and the lovely wedding album/scrapbook will be very special, indeed, when I finish putting all our photos of Peru and our ceremony here in it. Thank you, everyone, for your part in making it a very touching, meaningful celebration. And, Mrs. Cutter, we all appreciate what you have done as Room Parent this year. Mahalo nui loa from me and all the parents and children!!

Photo Gallery
Be sure to check our Photo Gallery this evening for photos of Peru and the incredible Geography presentations.

Geography
Our exploration of this fascinating planet and its people continues. So far we have had presentations by parents, relatives, and friends on the following countries: Brazil (Mrs. Antunes), China (Mr. Trowbridge and Miss Cheryl from Preschool), Peru and “Children of the World” (Ms. Revard), Israel (MB’s auntie and cousin), and Cambodia (Mrs. Brousseau and MB's grandmother, Mrs. Roach). In the next two weeks we will learn about Russia (MH’s mom), Africa (MH's sister), Australia (ZK’s dad), Oceania (Captain Koon), Europe and Asia (Ms. Revard), and perhaps a few more. We will also be visiting KC’s father’s shop to learn more about India, Nepal, Burma, and Thailand.

Your children are absolutely fascinated by it all. Today, they watched a DVD on Cambodian palace dancing, and most were trying out the intricate moves. After the Israel presentation, the children sang a favorite song for our visitors, “Shalom, Shalom” and the choir children in our class sang a beautiful Brazilian song for Mrs. Antunes. Holly and her dad taught a Chinese song, too. The children have learned to write and count in many languages. They have eaten foods from faraway lands. They have seen costumes from other climatic regions. They have traveled the world vicariously through photos and the stories our visitors tell. It is a very special journey for them, which I think will influence their development and love of learning throughout their lives. Mahalo to everyone who has helped with the Inquiry research or come in to share their adventures and lives with us!

May Day
Yes, we are busy preparing for the big event, and we will need the help of parents to prepare costumes, dress for the program, and supply greenery and flowers. More information will be coming to you early next week, but I just want to alert you about a Parent Work Day on Saturday, April 21, from 2:00 - 6:00. If you are not busy, please plan to come and be a part of the parent team that prepares costumes and decorations for May Day. Details will follow soon!

Book Projects
Your children presented excellent Book Projects before Spring Break. They need to prepare one more by the end of the year. They are already excitedly discussing which book and what kind of project they want to do. Please guide and help them as before. It is a wonderful opportunity for children and parents to collaborate.

Math Facts
For this week and next, I am assigning Math Fact practice for Homework. Beginning the week of April 23th, I will be checking the children’s progress. Please encourage them to practice!
