Learning Together

Aloha, Parents of Magic Stone Kids!

What a joy it is to work with your children!  They are caring, happy, enthusiastic participants in their new learning community who take pride in helping their classmates and me.  What more could a teacher ask for?  The first two weeks of school have been primarily devoted to assessing the children's strengths and needs; creating a cooperative, caring community; and learning all kinds of fascinating things. They have enjoyed sharing hurricane stories and information, their pets, current events, and summer vacation adventures.  We've even seen a tornado in a bottle!  Routines are developing, and the children now quickly and happily settle into their writing, reading, and math activities.  Of course, we have also taken time to dance, sing, chant, play games, and quietly reflect.  What fun!  All of our new 1st Graders are already good presenters--not a shy one among them!  And you should see them dance!

Open House

It is important that all parents attend our Open House on Wednesday, August 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  2nd Grade parents are familiar with many aspects of the curriculum, but some elements, like our new Investigations Math Program, have changed.  There will also be different expectations and activities this year, so be sure to come!  The Open House will also be an opportunity to meet other parents.  Remember, you are all a part of our learning community, and we invite you to sign up to be a room parent and/or to share something that will enrich our learning experience.  We love involved parents!

Be sure and check out my web photo gallery.  It has wonderful pictures of your children involved in learning together and highlights of our first two weeks of school.  1st Grade parents, check out Ms. Field's gallery for pictures of 1st Grade math activities.  And, please, sign up to receive blog notifications online.
