Weekly News

Hello Beeg Bug Families,

This is Ms. Correia again, letting you know what we have been up to this past week. This week is the last week of my solo teaching period, and it has been such an exciting week with our photo shoot and our second Bishop Museum field trip. We have also been working on finishing up our math unit on division. This week we began talking about remainders and had a blast learning how to play the game Leftovers. Read on for more about our fun-filled week.

The photo shoot that we participated in on Wednesday went very well. We were all great models and did a fabulous job of representing Mid-Pacific Institute. The field trip we went on yesterday was also a lot of fun. We learned all about how different plants and animals arrived in the Hawaiian Islands and how to navigate using the stars as our guide. We even got to be scientists for the day and examined various seed samples from the past to determine how our island has changed throughout the years.

In Writing Workshop this week, we are all working towards publishing our writing pieces. Writing drafts were due on Tuesday, and all of our stories are very creative and interesting. In math we began learning about remainders and how to solve division problems that don’t divide evenly. As for Hawaiian Studies, our bulletin boards are coming along nicely, and very soon we will begin seeing graphs, pictures, and other interesting information up on our classroom walls.

For the next two weeks (April 16-27), we will be participating in the The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients fundraiser that benefits children with leukemia. We have already begun brainstorming fundraising ideas and are very determined to support such an important cause. That about wraps it up for this week. Have a wonderful weekend!
