Dear Beeg Bug Families,
Thank you for another wonderful year! It has been a year of growth, laughter, learning, and sharing for all of us. I am thankful that I have been able to spend it with you and your child. Fourth grade families, I will miss you. Third grade families, I look forward to another exciting year.
I have included some summer suggestions. Use it in whatever way you'd like. Summer is a time for fun, relaxation, and learning. Take a look and see what will work for your family.
Here are some of my suggestions:
***Read every day. I have included a list of my favorite authors. All of these books are good choices. Favorite Authors 2007
***Keep writing! Write fun stories, keep a journal, do research, write poetry, and have your family help you edit. I have included the Scholastic News summary form. Summary Form You could read the newspaper or magazines, or look up articles on the Internet to write summaries.
***Do research. Next year we’ll be focusing on Hawaii’s cultural history, the history of Manoa in particular. In fifth grade you’ll be studying American History (Native Americans, Colonial America, etc...). You might want to try something along those lines.
***Do math. Practice your calculations. Five problems a day will keep your brain nice and warm for next year. Play math games.
***Practice your keyboarding. You can use our program from your language arts folder or just type up your own writing!
***Finish your handwriting, SAT, or Wordly Wise books.
***If you’re going on a trip, take pictures and notes and put together a slide show for us to watch. Or, calculate how many miles you traveled.
Have a fun summer, and thank you!
