6 Traits
This week our authors have been hard at work learning about the six traits of writing. First, we read some sample pieces of writing and talked about what we liked and what we thought could have been better. Then we looked at the 6-Traits rubric and actually assessed the two pieces of writing. The 6-Traits writing rubric is a rubric which is split up into these 6 traits; Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions. We read the descriptors carefully for each trait and gave the writing a score from 1-6 on each trait. We were basically in agreement for most of the traits, though some of our assessors are very harsh! After we identified the strengths and weaknesses of the two pieces of writing, I asked them to re-write one of the pieces to improve on the areas that were weak. This was great practice for the revising we are about to do on our own pieces! The students will be using this Writing Workshop Checklist to guide them through the revision process. I'll let you know how it goes.
