The Hawaiian Stars did a wonderful job on their Math Adventure presentations. Eight received 5 stars, nine received 4 stars, and one received 3 stars. The math problems were challenging, the explanations were thorough, and the posters were all very creative and colorful. We had a wide variety of math skills incorporated into the projects, and it was nice to see everyone experiencing success. Their planning and practicing of the speeches was evident in their presentations. Several parents and one grandparent attended the sharing and provided much appreciated support for the students. The posters will be posted on our classroom wall this weekend.
The Hawaiian Stars had a truly enjoyable stay at Camp Erdman last week. They engaged in many exciting and fun activities which helped tham to learn about conserving the environment and how to work together. They loved the games like Predator/Prey and the Group Challenges, enjoyed swimming and archery, and loved the campfire and night activities to explore their senses and astronomy. They also liked the Geology and Beach Ecology sessions as well as the Mauka Hike. Many liked doing KP because they had never done it before. They loved the meals and snacks, but thought the cabins needed to be cleaner and bug-free. All in all, everyone had a great time!
Many thanks to the chaperones for helping to keep the Hawaiian Stars safe and happy on this trip. Your support and diligent supervision are sincerely appreciated. The Hawaiian Stars would like to thank Mrs. Chung, Mr, Cortez, Mr. Higo. Mrs. Hirano. Mrs. Hirose, Ms. Sawada, Mrs. Cochran, Mr. Shideler, Mr. Tasaka, and Mrs. Trowbridge for helping everyone to have an enjoyable time. We are looking forward to returning to Camp Erdman next year.
Mrs. Chung bought everyone some mood pencils and refrigerator magnets as souvenirs of Camp Erdman. Thank you, Mrs. Chung!
MT celebrated her birthday on Ocober 10th and brought blueberry and banana nut muffins for the class. Everyone enjoyed the special treat.
Our regular work continues every day, and most students have completed Lesson 7 in their Wordly Wise books and are working on their corrections. Writing a legend about the creation of the Hawaiian Islands has been a challenging activity, and a few have published their stories already. Others are finishing them and hope to publish soon.
Our math has been moving along, and there has been much success with computation practice for both the third and fourth graders. Most have done their corrections in class daily. The CML problems are providing some challenging collaborative opportunities for the Hawaiian Stars, who like working with partners. In PE class they measured a tenth of a mile to help them understand the distance they run each day. They will be logging their progress on special sheets which Mrs. Jenkins will keep.
