The Hawaiian Stars did a great job on their Math Adventure presentations. Their speeches were memorized, and the posters were attractive and colorful and carefully stated the problem and two different solutions. They are now posted on the walls of our classroom for everyone to enjoy. The next project will be a book report that is due for presentation on Monday, December 11, 2006, after the conferences. These book reports should have a different kind of visual aid than the first two, and the speeches need to be interesting and motivate the audience to want to read the book. Our class has been very successful in developing creative visual aids for their projects.
The two meetings for parents about the Big Island Trip are scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, at 6:00 PM in Wilcox Dining Room and on Monday, December 4, at 6:00 PM in Wilcox Dining Room. You need to attend one of these meetings if you are planning to join us on the trips. Mrs. Hussey will explain the chaperone requirements, and the classroom teachers will explain the itinerary and purpose of the trips. Ms. Holzman and I will be at the November 29 meeting, while Ms. Byrne and Mrs. Lorenzana will be at the December 4 meeting. Parents will be asked to sign up to go on the trips at the two meetings. The list will be given to the office of Goodenow and Associates, which is taking charge of the fingerprinting and background checks. Tuberculin tests can be handled at Diamond Head Health Center or Lanakila Health Center. They are free.
On December 1 the students have a holiday while the teachers prepare for conferences.
On December 5 we will be attending a performance of the Honolulu Theatre for Youth's Christmas Talk Story at Tenney Theater.
Begining this week, the students will be practicing for the Christmas program in their music classes. On the day of the performance, a snack will be provided as well as a light dinner after the first performance. All students need to be in their classrooms dressed and ready to perform at 3:55 PM on December 14. The program will be in Bakken Hall for both performances. Please refer to the Christmas Program information on the school website for costuming information.
