The Hawaiian Stars did a great job with their Math Adventure presentations on Tuesday. Almost everyone received four stars for their evaluation, and two students received five stars. The final presentation was made this morning. The projects were better prepared, the speeches were interesting, and the posters were unique and colorful. We are better mathematicians because of our experience in explaining two different solutions to every problem. Our planning and time management are also improving as more projects are completed ahead of time. It is so nice to see the great variety of topics and levels of difficulty in the projects.
The Big Island trip plans are coming along nicely, and this week we will be sending the names of all of our travelers to Hawaiian Airlines. We have a large group staying on the Big Island for the weekend, so they will have a few more days to enjoy the beauty of Hawaii. We are almost completely confirmed with all the stops on our itinerary. Once the final confirmations are made, you will be informed of the revised itinerary. Many thanks to everyone for honoring the deadline for the checklist and turning in copies of your tb test results. We are still awaiting information from Kilauea Military Camp about how many people can be in each cabin so we can make the cabin assignments. There are different cabin configurations, so each cabin can house a different number of people. When that is ready, you will receive a copy.
Our regular work continues in earnest, and we are having fun with the test prep sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The fourth graders are working on their test prep book, while the third graders are doing their test prep book as well as the D'Nealian handwriting book.
Many thanks to all the supporters of the Pizza Night fundraiser for the choir. It seems that many of our families are supporting this effort every month.
The Hawaiian Stars are enjoying their discussions about the volcanoes of Oahu and Hawaii and have learned a lot already. Their inquiry research should produce a lot of interesting information in the weeks ahead.
