Hawaiian Stars News: April 19, 2007

The Hawaiian Stars are all very busy working on their second Keynote slide shows about the Big Island trip and are very excited to share what they learned. We hope to have all of the slide shows completed by the second week of May so that we can share them with parents on May 11th. I will post the time as soon as we get things done.

All Hawaiian Stars should already have their Math Adventure planning sheets approved for the final projects, which are due for presentation on April 30th. We are still waiting to have the last book report presented this week and hope that everyone will be on time with their final projects. They should be very creative and challenging!

We have begun to work on our portfolios to prepare them for the conferences next month, and some serious reflecting about the progress we have made is being done. We are setting new goals, selecting work samples to include, and reflecting on our progress. We will be writing our speeches next week and also finishing up some writing to include.

Our "Pennies for Patients" collection is growing as bags of pennies are added to the boxes every day. We hope to collect the largest amount among the classes so we can have that pizza party. We have already filled one collection box with pennies, and the second box is about half full. Many thanks to all ot the families who are supporting this worthwhile fundraiser!

The May Day preparations are falling into place. Everyone should have their outfit for the program already. Plumerias will be strung into leis on Thursday, May 3rd, first thing in the morning. If parents can help us with this project, please come to the classroom at 7:45 AM that morning.

We have completed our planned test prep work this week, and next week the fourth grade needs to be ready for the actual SAT. We will be having seven sessions during the week to do all of the subtests. Please read Mrs. Holzman's blog for more specific information because she worked to prepare the fourth graders for the test while I worked with the third graders.

All third graders have completed their handwriting workbooks, and I will be checking their work. They will get their books back next week. While the fourth graders are taking the SAT, the third graders will be doing more test exercises to practice.

Miss Brooks has offered two extra classes to make up for all the ones that were missed during the last two months. Hopefully, that will get everyone caught up with their projects. Many thanks to Miss Brooks for providing the extra class times.

SC celebrated her birthday with cookies and goodie bags for the class.

All of the book orders have been mailed in so we should have a nice shipment of new books in a couple of weeks.
