The Hawaiian Stars are excited about their final Math Adventure presentations, which are due on Monday, April 30. Everyone has received approval for their planning sheets, and their problems are interesting and challenging. We hope to have some outstanding presentations on Monday!
Stanford Achievement Testing is going well for the fourth graders, and most have
expressed confidence that they have done a good job on all of the different tests. We end with two sessions today. The third graders have also done some test-taking during the same period, and they enjoyed the open-ended writing activities.
Our Keynote slide shows are slowly coming together and should be ready for sharing with parents on Friday, May 11, beginning at 7:45 AM. We would like you to see how very creatively we organized the slide shows about the Big Island trip. Of course, there's still a lot of work to do before we actually share them with you.
"Pennies for Patients" ends tomorrow, so we will accept final contributions until tomorrow morning. The collection boxes will be decorated today. Since most of the contributions have been bags of pennies, we have filled the two collection boxes. We're hoping that the amount we collected will qualify us for a pizza party. However, if we don't win, we're still supporting a very good cause.
Portfolios are the focus of some of our work time, and most of the Hawaiian Stars have added some selections to showcase their progress in the second semester. We will be doing some additional work every day in the weeks ahead as we prepare for conferences.
May Day preparations have been organized, and the class will string plumeria lei with the flowers they bring in on May 3, beginning at 7:45 AM. We will need some parents to help with this task, so if you're available, please come to help the children with this project. The girls also need to make rosettes to wear in their hair.
All clothes for the May Day program need to be brought to school on May 1. Girls need a long muumuu in a green print, and boys need black trousers with a white long-sleeved shirt. Everyone will need to wear slippers, but they will perform barefoot.
Parking has been limited to one car per family for May Day, so if you haven't notified the office about how many people are coming from your family, please call as soon as possible.
I hope to see all of you next Friday!
