Preparing for the SAT
Last week our class started to prepare for taking the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT).
Mrs. Holzman's third graders go to Mrs. Fukumoto's class for 45 minutes twice a week. They are currently practicing test-taking skills from a workbook called
Great Source TEST ACHIEVER - Mastering Standardized Tests in preparation for taking the SAT next year.
They are also working on beginning their cursive handwriting using the D'Nealian method. If you would like to reinforce this skill by practicing with your third grader at home, please let me now and I can share the method used in D'Nealian.
Mrs. Fukumoto's fourth graders join my class twice a week for 45 minutes twice a week. We are currently using a workbook called Scoring High-Standford Achievement Test - A Test Prep Program. You should have received a letter last week describing the process of the program.
Only the fourth grade classes will be taking the SAT test. The tests will be administered the last week in April. A note will be sent home prior to the week of testing to give some helpful hints that will ensure that your child be at his/her best for the testing.
So far, the students love it! They think it's fun to "fill in the bubbles" and look forward to Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Having a great attitude is more than half the battle, so we are off to a wonderful start.
If you have any questions or would like to talk further about standardized testing, please feel free to contact me.
