Our week began with a special concert put on by the MPI Wind Ensemble. Our class, along with the other 3/4 classes and the fifth grade, made the hike up to Kawaiaha`o Theater and was treated to an afternoon filled with music. The Wind Ensemble played familiar pieces, like "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid, and a medley of songs from Mulan. The ensemble members even took time to show us the different instruments and what each instrument sounds like. Students now know what they have to look forward to as they move up to the high school!
In class this week we started talking about poetry. We listened to different types of poems and brainstormed different elements that poems have. We then drafted our own poems. For Valentine's Day, we created cinquain poems, a structured poem in which students needed to use nouns, adjectives, verbs, and synonyms. Did you see your child's cinquain poem? If not, ask them about it!
Please check the white envelope today. It contains important information concerning our upcoming trip. Included in the packet are the following: packing list, flight list, chaperone list, final itinerary, and medical release form. Please read over these items carefully. When reading over the chaperone list, please check to see if you will be chaperoning any children other than your own. If your child is being chaperoned by another parent, we suggest that you contact that parent prior to the trip with any reminders regarding your child. A final rooming list will be sent out next week. Also, please note that the medical release form is due as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the information packet or the trip in general, please contact Mrs. Lorenzana.
Please remember tomorrow is Jump Rope for Heart day at MPI Elementary. Please make sure that your child is wearing comfortable clothes and the appropriate shoes for the event. Jump Rope for Heart takes place after lunch in the MPI gym. As a special honor, our class will be helping our preschool friends at their own Jump Rope for Heart, which takes place tomorrow morning. We are excited to be able to help the youngest members of our school during this special event.
Thanks for checking out the website. See you next week!
