S.A.T. testing and May Day reminders

This week, our fourth graders have been busy with S.A.T. testing. They have been working hard, taking tests every morning. Testing concludes today. We usually receive the test results in the summer. We will send home the test results, along with an explanation on score interpretations. Let's congratulate our fourth graders on working so hard this week!

Meanwhile, our third graders have been working on an inquiry project about volcanoes. Along with the third grade students from Ms. Byrne's class, and led by Ms. Byrne's student teacher Ms. Correia, our students have been divided into groups and given a volcano found on the Ring of Fire to research. They will compile their research and present their findings to their classmates next week.

During this time we have also made fraction kits. With our fraction kits, we will be learning various games that teach us about fractions. The first game we are learning is called "Cover-up." In this game, students pair up and take turns rolling a fraction die. The goal is to "cover up" a whole bar with fractional parts. This game teaches students about equivalent fractions and common denominators.

Next Friday, May 4, is our annual May Day celebration. Information has already gone home about student attire . On Thursday, May 3, our class will be stringing lei for their performance. We are asking each student to bring in about 75 yellow plumeria blossoms in order to make 2 lei. If possible, please bring in the thick blossoms as the thin blossoms wilt and tear easily. Again, this is only if possible. Please bring in whichever ones you have. Also, if you have any extra blossoms, please send them in with your child. If any parents would like to come help us string lei from 1:00 - 2:00 on Thursday, May 3, please contact Mrs. Lorenzana.
