A Cultural Exchange

On Wednesday, the entire elementary school walked down to the gym for a special assembly featuring a performance by Cambodian students visiting our school.  As we walked into the gym, we were a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of people filing into the building.  We then realized it was the first time the entire Mid-Pacific Institute, preschool through grade 12, had gathered together as one school!  What an amazing feeling it was to be assembled all together in the same place!  Seeing the familiar faces of past students, watching students look for and wave to old friends - what a wonderful experience! During the assembly, we were treated to performances by MPI's own hula halau as well as performances by the visiting students of Cambodia.  This truly was a special gathering!

Writing Workshop is in full swing this week.  We took the items from our All About Me bags and used them to write mini-biographies.  These items provided us with an opportunity to discuss paragraph writing.  During our discussion we talked about how each item represents a different aspect of our life, so each item should be explained in a new paragraph.  We also talked about how we should start off describing the item and explaining why we chose it, but that we should also add in other details as well.  These All About Me pieces should be published by the end of next week and will be posted next to the pictures of the items in the classroom.
