Mr. Black's class is settling into an organized routine. The students are using their daily planners efficiently to keep track of their assignments and manage their time. Throughout the year, they will be refining their communication and attentive listening skills. The student's math foundations are being strengthened through work with place values, rounding, estimations, numbers operations, factors, prime and composite numbers, and exponents. We are using the Math Investigation Program, which provides hands on problem solving and group interaction. In science the class is exploring the solar system and different theories about the origin of life. Each student has chosen a planet to study for the Planet Inquiry Project. The students are researching some very interesting current developments in our solar system.
Mrs. Matsumoto is working with the 5th graders in language arts and social studies, and we will be integrating the curriculum throughout the year.
Community service activities include autoline duty, Peace Team training, and kinder buddies. The year is off to a good start, and the students and teachers are building a strong community with a positive and productive learning environment.
