Storytelling Island

The students enjoyed a rich experience with Lyn Ford, a guest storyteller from Ohio who visited our school this week. Storytelling is a fantastic way for students to share their ideas and imagination.  With that in mind, the students are eager to create an imaginary island - Storytelling Island - using a variety of their educational skills.  In science, we have started our study of our living planet Earth and all of its natural features.  The students have shown great interest in knowing how all of the different systems of Earth function to maintain healthy ecosystems.  In math, we have been studying global positioning, charting and plotting longitude and latitude coordinates. In social studies, we are studying Native Americans, their customs, and their respect for nature.  In language arts, we are reading Summer of the Monkeys and learning descriptive language skills incorporating spicy adjectives and similes.Storytelling Island will combine all of these skills in an imaginative way that we will all enjoy.
