Two big short weeks!
Last Friday the teachers from the entire school got together to develop a vision for the future of the school, and we had no school in recognition of Discovers' Day. The children had an opportunity to share in Margery Jacobson's vision for a new future in Chicago. She is leaving the educational profession after giving many loving years to Epiphany School and MPI.

Mrs. Jacobson, students, teachers, and parents shared tears of joy.
In science the students have finished their Planet Inquiry posters and have moved on to study the sun, light, and energy. The students are interested in recycling, conserving energy, and taking care of the environment. The class has started a year-long project to conserve energy on the elementary campus and will use the proceeds from recycling to buy energy-efficient lights and solar panels.
They have been studying light, a visible form of the Sun's energy. They used a prism to separate light into its different colors. Light is made up of photons and travels in waves.

They continue to write Halloween stories with their Kinder Buddies, enjoy recess, and celebrate birthday parties.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JILLIAN!
In math they have started unit 2 in Investigations on volume. They enjoy making containers of different dimensions and filling them with cubic units to determine the volume.
The students did well on the last quiz on decimals, and we will be review past math concepts to build a strong foundation before moving on to fractions, percentages, and geometry.
The students enjoyed making sundials and used past knowledge and critical thinking to predict which direction was north. We then made a compass and tested our theory.
The class cries for Mr. Black as he gets his flu shot.
