Human Body Inquiry

Tell me everything you know about the human body.

K.T.:
"This is the brain. It makes you think. These are the bones so you can move. These are the lungs. The lungs make you healthier. This is the heart, and the heart pumps blood, and the blood goes all over your body. Skin protects your body."

I.I.:
"Sometimes the brain makes you smart or not smart. The red is the blood. It goes around in your body. This is my heart. (pointing to it) The heart pumps up your blood. These are the bones. They move when your body moves. Your skin holds your blood and body."

A.M.:
"The face is colorful because it is a rainbow face. The eyes need to be rainbow because the face is strong." What do you mean strong? "The face is like happy. The body has these stuff because it jiggles when you take a step. The skin protects you. Your bones need to be in your body because it makes you strong.  You need to exercise to get stronger."

L.J.:
"These are my legs. The legs can exercise. Your hair is fuzzy. Your hand can feel if your hair is smooth or not smooth or if you have lots of knots. This is my heart pumping. The brain helps you think good. All the green is for movement. Bones make you run. Bones can move."

K.K.:
"You can eat the blueberries. It goes in your mouth, then it goes in your tummy. I ate the strawberries, and the strawberries are making me go to sleep." How do they make you go to sleep? "It makes my head pop up. I ate the apples. The apples are making me exercise."

T.P.T:
"The brain helps you think. I know that the veins carry blood all over. The squiggly lines are the muscles. The muscles help you push and pull things. If you did not have muscles, you would not be able to push, pull, and run. You would be just like this. (He is standing like a statue). That is the heart. My dad told me that the blue and pink things pump blood in and out of the heart. The bones help you bend. Joints help you bend. The veins take blood. They are like a delivery truck. They take it here and here and here and here."

A.Y.:
"That is the heart. I do not know what the heart does. The red stuff is the blood. That's the bone. I don't know what it does."

C.M.:
"Bones make you strong." How do bones make you strong? "By the muscles, because they are really strong and they help your body grow. Your bones are kind of reddish whitish. This makes your ear hear. It is inside. This thing (a purple hook) helps you breathe.   The heart has Jesus inside of it.  God is inside, too. That is the heart. I do not know what the heart does."

K.N.:
"This is his brain. The brain is smart and has all the questions for your body.  If you have to use the bathroom, it sends a signal to the brain. These are muscles, and they make
your body move." How does it make your body move? "Cause it's strong. The heart make your body alive. If you did not have a heart, you would die. The lines are the things that send the blood to the body. Your bones make you move. That is the only thing that can make your body move. There are lines inside your body that send blood all over the place. Your eyes help you see. Lungs help you breathe. If you have asthma, you cough a lot. If you need glasses, your eyes are not working well. If you're sick, your body is not that well. If you get a flu shot, you won't get the flu."

I.M.:
"This is my brain. The brain helps you think. Eyes are the stuff that make you see very well. This is the stuff that makes you hear well." What is it?  "A kind of bone that helps you. Your teeth are bones. I know that your heart helps your body feel good." How does it help your body feel good?  "By the beating. Your heart beats. Your lungs help you, too. Your lungs help your body move, and the bones help you move, too. This is the stuff that helps make your fingers and hands move. It's like squishy stuff."

R.M.:
"The brain makes you smart. The heart helps your body circulate blood around your body. What does circulate mean? "I don't know. Without your heart, you cannot breathe. The acid is in your tummy so it can chomp all your food up. The veins carry the blood."

J.D.:
"You can think with your brain. This is my eating and drinking tube. This is my breathing tube. My heart contains oxygen." What is oxygen? "Oxygen is the air that you breathe. All these lines are my brain cells." What are brain cells?  "Brain cells are the things that you think with that make you get ready to fight and run away. The orange things are muscles." What are muscles? "They make your fingers move. Those are blood cells." What are blood cells? "They are things that go down in your body and go back up again and again and again. The grey things are my bones." What are bones? "The bones are things that make you move."

F.T.:
"This is skin. Hands move, and hands can touch things. Skin. Heart. Bones."

M.T.:
"The brain helps you think. Your tongue helps you to talk.  The heart pumps blood and helps you love something.  The lines help you breathe. This is the stomach. (pointing to a circle) Inside your mouth are teeth. They help you chew. Your skin is for feeling, and it's on your body because if you did not have it, your body would show." What part? "Your bones and your heart."

N.H.:
"The brain makes you smart. The elbow bone makes your arm smooth. These are the blood streams." What's a blood stream? "The things that carry the blood. The heart helps you breathe. Knees help work your body. The black things are the knee bones, knee caps, and leg bones. Your whole body is like a construction site, and the heart is the architect."

L.Z.:
"The brain helps you think. Your brain helps you read or talk to your friends. Eyes help you see. The mouth helps you taste and speak. Muscles help you lift heavy things."

M.Y.:
"This is my heart. This is a bone."
