The children thoroughly enjoyed the Lion Dance troupe that visited our school. CH's mom and TK's mom brought in Lion heads, drums, and puppets for the children to play with as well as gau and manapua for the children to eat. The children enjoyed the Lion's visit so much that they often pretend they are the Lion, dancing with the Lion head and beating on the drums. See our website for pictures of the day.

RB and Ms. Laura used the computer to look for a picture of a kite. RB believes that by using wire and paper, she can make a kite. What a coincidence that RB just finished wire-and-paper exploration in the atelier. A small group has been formed to see what they can come "up" with.

We celebrated MF's and EC's 5th birthdays this week. It is always awesome to hear the wonderful things that have happened in the four years that your child has been alive. The children learn new things about each other and find out they have a lot in common. Thanks for the treats, MF and EC; we hope you both have a great year!

What happens when dramatic play collides with block area? You get dogs chasing the kitty, and you get the boys using some of the girls' dramatic play materials to "cook," while the girls use the boys' "money." It was a great socializing exploration that needed no teacher interventions!
In C.E., Ms. Lorianne talked to the class about teasing. She had the children role-play a situation in which one friend teased another about not having the ball. After sharing our feelings, and talking about the problem, we all felt more comfortable in our ability to stand up for ourselves, verbally share our feelings, and problem solve.

Thank you to the Shuto family for donating a wagon to our preschool. Many children were interested in using the new wagon, which allowed them the opportunity to stand up for themselves, verbally share their feelings, and problem solve. Read about this story in our Daily Happenings binder to see how the children are developing their dispositions to collaborate, help, and share.
