Party Planners: Painting and Plans

On January 8, the Party Planners held their first meeting of the new year. At this meeting, the group made a list of things they will need to decorate their pinata. The girls wrote the words and numbers on individual papers. They helped each other, so that everyone could complete their list.

BW: “I don’t know how to write the #2.”
Ms. Leigh: “Can anyone help B write a 2?”
KO, RB, EC: “I can.”

Their list included:

Tissue, (blue, pink, red, green, and purple) ribbon, paint, and glue.

On January 12, the Party Planners began the decoration process for their pinata. After reviewing the list of colors they decided on earlier, the group began to paint one side of their unicorn pinata.

On January 17, the group finished painting the other side of the pinata with the “rainbow” colors.

After the meeting, the group sat down to discuss further plans for their pinata and party.

Ms. Leigh: “Are we still planning to put cookies in our pinata?”
BW: “Yes, we have to buy it from the store.”
RB: “Maybe I can drive you to Safeway.”
Ms. Leigh: “Can you drive?”
RB: “We need a six-seater car.”
KO: “You know, when I grow up, I’m going to drive all by myself.”
BW: “Yah, me too. If I know you then, you can come in, and if I don’t know you, then you can’t come in.”
EC: “I know, cause they’re strangers, right?”
BW: “Yah, my mom said don’t talk to strangers.”
RB: “We can only say thank you when they let us cross the street.”
Ms. Leigh: “Well, right now none of you can drive, and it’s a rule that teachers can’t drive the children in their own cars."
KO: “I guess we have to take the bus.”
BW: “We need to buy cookies and candles.”
EC: “We need decorations.”
KO: “Christmas decorations.”
EC: “And unicorn goodie bags.”
KO: “We need cards to make families come here.”
Ms. Leigh: “Do you mean invitations?”
RB: “We need enough for the 3’s class and the 4’s class, and they need to write us back.”
Ms. Leigh: “What else do we need for our party?”
RB: “We need pizza for lunch."
BW: “And we need candles. We can buy it at Safeway.”
Ms. Leigh: “Is there anything else we need to think about?”
EC: “We need to play games.”
Ms. Leigh: “What kind of games?”
KO: “Checkers.”
EC: “Unicorn games, like throw the ball into the unicorn’s mouth.”
RB: “I know, pass the ball until the music stops. Then they have to sit in the middle.”

By the end of the meeting, the group had decided on the schedule for the party. Their guests will first eat cake, then play pinata, then eat pizza, and finally play games. The group also created their shopping list for Safeway. The list includes cookies, candles, and juice. At our next meeting, the Party Planners will begin decorating the pinata with ribbons and tissue.
