Welcome to a brand new year! I'm so excited to be working with both returning and new students. For those of you who don't know what the atelier is, here is a brief explanation. The atelier, or studio, plays an important role in the children's environment. It's a place where the children can work and explore new materials in small groups. We model the care of materials, and we work with varied materials and techniques, such as clay, painting, drawing, construction, and wire. As the small groups' work progresses, the studio is used as a meeting place where the children can develop their ideas through appropriate media. During the first weeks of school, we have spent time learning about materials and how to care for them and for our environment. Above are photos of a child who is demonstrating his understanding of the painting materials.
