A Visit to the CE House
Welcome to a new school year that holds many possibilities for rich learning, meaningful friendships, and joyful awakenings! I would like to invite you to visit our cozy cottage, where the children come for forty-five-minute class sessions twice a week. Our emphasis in CE (Character Education) is to guide and nurture each child in their own emotional development and spiritual growth.Aside from the scheduled classes, each day between 11:30 and 12:20 the CE House welcomes children during their lunch recess. It is a time for listening and sharing personal stories, and sometimes seeking counsel for a troubled heart.
Children can ask their small and BIG questions by writing notes and leaving them in the mailbox outside the cottage or simply by writing how they are feeling.
The downstairs Peace Room opens for quiet small group connections, silent reading, drawing, or resting on the couch. Often a brief silent renewal is all that is needed to lift one's spirit or settle one's mind.
In the upstairs CE room, the peer mediators prepare for mediation duty and for guiding their peers in settling conflicts peacefully.
In the coming weeks, Peace Team members will check in for duty, and visit to seek someone who will listen to their own feelings when problems arise and ways of settling these are unclear. Success stories are also shared when a Peace Team member, after numerous attempts to help another child find a solution to a conflict, is finally able to make a positive difference.
Children having birthdays come in for their "birthday stones," make a birthday wish, and receive a hug. A birthday candle is lit and a prayer or blessing is offered. The child then chooses a shiny stone, their "birthday stone," to take with him.
