We're in our first week of summer school, and our Jump Start Kindergarten class is still adjusting to new routines, meeting new friends and teachers, sharing ideas, and participating in classroom activities. Our class is off to a great start!

Our class theme is water! We will be exploring how we use water in our daily lives and why water is so important. Here are some ideas that students shared:
J.D.: “Water can get anything wet. If you put water in a glass for 10 days, it becomes sea glass.”
R.M.: “The rain falls, and it gives water to the plants.”
K.Ko.: “No wasting water. Put water in a cup and drink it all. Water makes you grow.”
N.A.: “The fish live in water.”
I.I.: “The water comes from the pipes. The rain came down and it went in the sewer.”
K.F.: “After you turn on the sprinklers, it waters the grass. Just like humans. They drink the water.”
K.Kob.: “When you turn on the faucet, you take your dishes and wash dishes. Where does water come from? A big pot?”
J.M.: “Water comes out at the water fountain.”
M.Y.: “Save water by turning off the fountain.”
K.Ku.: “Take a bath. I like hot water.”
T.D.: “If you have a drippy sink, tell your mother or father so they can fix it.”

Auntie Margo, from the Manoa Heritage Center, came over today for a special visit! She brought her newspaper, drawing canvas, markers, glitter, and colored paper. She talked about different occupations in our community and how hats are important.
Here are some ideas from our class:
M.F.: "Policeman."
A.G.: "Farmer."
S.S.: "Mr. K.'s cowboy hat."
T.P.T.: "Train Conductor."
C.H.: "Goofy and Donald Duck."
E.C: "Fireman."
J.M.: "Cook."
J.D.: "Policeman."
Each student got to decorate his/her own hat. We marched around the classroom to show off our fancy hats!
