Aloha! I am so excited to have your child in my summer school class.
We're in our first week of summer school, and our Jump Start Kindergarten students are adjusting to new routines, new friends and teachers, shared ideas, and participation in classroom activities. We're off to a great start!

Our class spent a couple of days exploring and playing with different math manipulatives. Students need this exploration and play time before they are ready for more directed activities with the manipulatives. Some children chose to sort buttons and unifix cubes, while others engaged in pretend play with the counting bears.

Our inquiry unit in Kindergarten involves studying the community we live in and the Hawaiian islands. I began the unit by asking the students, "What does community mean to you?"
Here are some answers from our class:
E.C: "Love."
A.G.: "Family."
J.M.: "It means caring."
M.F.: "Party."
C.H.: "To work."
J.D.: "It means hello."
T.P.T.: "Birthday."
S.S.: "Goodbye."
